HGTV's Kim Wolfe Called on Her 'Survivor' Bestie to Help With a Special Nursery Design

If you can survive on an island together, you can put a crib together, right?

Design guru Kim Wolfe has a knack for making the best out of a bad situation. She did it while competing on a deserted island as a contestant on CBS's Survivor where she made alliances, pushed herself physically and came out the winner of Season 24. Now, she does it as the host of Why the Heck Did I Buy This House?

In an episode from Season 1, Kim’s clients were working on renovating their home’s exterior, kitchen and main suite. Halfway through the renovations, they found out they were expecting a baby — so Kim called on a friend with her own survival and design instincts, Chelsea Meissner. Not only were Kim and Chelsea in the same alliance on Survivor together, they’ve been design-loving friends in real life ever since.

“My Survivor bestie, Chelsea, she’s going to help me out. I decided to add to my workload by taking on a nursery for the Carlton’s new baby girl,” said Kim during the episode. “The two of us — we survived 39 days on a desolate island together, so I’m thinking this should be cake.”

But when the duo got down to their task of building a crib, it proved more complicated than winning a Survivor challenge.

“I don’t like reading directions,” said Chelsea.

“Oh no, you’re one of those,” said Kim.

Luckily, the first and third place winners of Season 24 have experience designing together (Kim was the interior designer for Chelsea’s Charleston home) and were able to pull off an adorable nursery complete with boho touches, dusty pink paint and lots of texture.

“It’s perfect!” said homeowner Julee Carlton during the surprise reveal. “To walk in and have this nursery done is just very, very thoughtful and amazing.”
